What is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987. However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. It is hard to imagine someone would actually spend 8 million dollars on a car instead of using it for something more productive. However, if you have the money and the opportunity, you will definitely spend a small fraction of it to place a few of these supercars in your garage. Here are the 10 most expensive production cars on the market.
1. Bugatti Veyron $1,700,000. This is by far the most expensive street legal car available on the market today. It is the fastest accelerating car reaching 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. It is also the fastest street legal car when tested again on July 10, 2010 with the 2010 Super Sport Version reaching a top speed of 267 mph. When competing against the Bugatti Veyron, you better be prepared!

2. Lamborghini Reventon $1,600,000. The most powerful and the most expensive Lamborghini ever built is the second on the list. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and it has a top speed of 211 mph. Its rarity (limited to 20) and slick design are the reasons why it is so expensive and costly to own.

3. McLaren F1 $970,000. In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car. Even though it was built 15 years ago, it has an unbelievable  top speed of 240 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Even as of today, the McLaren F1 is still top on the list and it outperformed many other supercars.

4. Ferrari Enzo $670,000. The most known supercar ever built. The Enzo has a top speed of 217 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Only 400 units were produced and it is currently being sold for over $1,000,000 at auctions.

5. Pagani Zonda C12 F $667,321. Produced by a small independent company in Italy, the Pagani Zonda C12 F is the 5th fastest car in the world. It promises to delivery a top speed of 215 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

6. SSC Ultimate Aero $654,400. Don't let the price tag fool you, the 6th most expensive car is actually the 2nd fastest street legal car in the world with a top speed of 257 mph+ and reaching 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. This baby cost nearly half as much as the Bugatti Veyron, yet has enough power to compete against the most expensive car. It is estimated that only 25 of this exact model will ever be produced.

7. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo $555,000. The first true American production certified supercar, this cowboy is also rank 3rd for the fastest car in the world. It has a top speed of 248 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. If you are a true American patriot, you can be proud to show off this car.

8. Koenigsegg CCX $545,568. Swedish made, the Koenigsegg is fighting hard to become the fastest car in the world. Currently, it is the 4th fastest car in the world with a top speed of 245 mph+, the car manufacture Koenigsegg is not giving up and will continue to try and produce the fastest car. 9. Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren Roadster $495,000. A GT supercar, the SLR McLaren is the fastest automatic transmission car in the world with a top speed of 206 mph+ and reaching 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. It is a luxurious convertible with a really powerful engine, which results in outstanding performances and style.

Tesla Roadster Owner Drives 100,000 Kilometers in less than two Years

Hansjörg von Gemmingen has gained the bragging rights to say he has covered more miles in aTesla Roadster than anybody else has. The German racked up an impressive 100,000 kilometers (62,137 miles) since he first purchased the car less than two years ago. A stockbroker living in the southwest part of the country, von Gemmingen says he drives his Tesla on a daily basis regardless of purpose or distance, charging it every night through a standard household outlet.

The owner of the 83rd Tesla Roadster to be delivered in Europe claims he always finds somewhere to plug in and recharge the car’sbatteries. His 82-year-old mother-in-law even installed a 32-amp (240-volt) plug at her house so that Hansjörg visits her more frequently.

“The Roadster handles long roadtrips with ease. As long as you have somewhere to plug in for a bit along the way, it’s simple to drive the car no matter where you’re headed,” von Gemmingen says.

He even made an 800-kilometer (497 miles) journey to Berlin for the Tesla owners event last year. In less than two years, he has driven farther than any other Tesla customer. What he didn't reveal, however, is whether the car is still running on the original set of batteries or a new one.

So far, Tesla's global fleet of more than 1,600 Roadsters have been driven more than 11 million miles, with the company claiming it will use all the customer feedback on the upcoming 2012 Model S.

It’s Coming from Down Under: Joss Development’s JP1 Supercar

It’s been a very long time in the making, but it looks like Melbourne-based JOSS Developments is nearing the production phase of its V8-powered supercar model, internally codenamed JP1. The company today announced that it will preview the future production version of the JP1 at the forthcoming Australian International Motor Show (AIMS), which takes place this year at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Center from July 1 to 10.
The Australianstartup said it will showcase an evaluation prototype as well as a wind tunnel model of the production JP1 and select componentry from its technical partners. This will be the second time that JOSS Developments will be exhibiting the vehicle to the public after the appearance of an early prototype model in Melbourne in 2004.
“We had an amazing reception for our JT1 prototype in Melbourne several years ago, but building a car business is very involved,” said JOSS Developments Technical Director, Matt Thomas.
“So JOSS Developments has spent the last few years working on the business: building investment, working with our technical suppliers, and putting in place the right people so that when we launch JP1 the company will be geared up to deliver a great product to the market” Thomas added.
The test version of the JP1 is fitted with a mid-mounted 6.8-liter all-aluminum V8 cranking out 440-horsepower and 420 lb-ft of peak torque. The V8 is matched to a Porsche-sourced 5-speed manual gearbox. The company said the prototype tips the scales at just 940 kg (2,072 pounds) and can complete the 0-100 km/h (62mph) sprint in less than 3.0 seconds and the quarter-mile run in 11.9 seconds, en route to a top speed of 300 km/h (187 mph).
The production model will be motivated by a V8 engine of unknown displacement and origin pushing out more than 500 ponies, with power sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. Joss Developments claims that the carbon-fiber bodied JP1 will be capable of running the 0-100km/h sprint in under 3.0 seconds, the ¼ mile in less than 11.0 seconds while topping out at 340 km/h (211 mph).
The estimated price tag for the V8-powered supercar from Down Under is said to be over AU$500,000 (equal to US$530,000+ or €373,000+).
